The player's character cannot directly fight in battles, but rather employs up to five squadrons of allies to do so. The king provides the main story quests, but there are numerous side quests which can be completed as well, in virtually any order.

After a brief "final exam" tutorial at the School of Knights, the player receives some basic troops and is then set free to pursue whatever quests are desired. When the battle was over I thought “awesome” and immediately next “I’m crazy” so stopped playing. In King's Bounty: The Legend, the player plays as a hero in the world of Endoria, sworn to serve the king of Darion.

They were hitting very hard), the dragon occasionally flying overhead killing one with each pass.Īt least an hour passed like this. So what followed was me running around from this very slow stack of 120 swordsmen (or something else, not paladins but damn they were tough to kill) while they follow my units around the grid, occasionally spamming a summon with the runemages (said summon would almost immediately get destroyed by the enemy stack. I had used all scrolls that I could as well. The blackdragon had 50 health, I had already used revive on an emerald dragon and those too were very low on health. I had my customary (due to being lazy and not wanting to try another army composition just yet) 4 trolls, 1 black dragon, 2 emerald dragons, 3 rune mages, 2 cyclops.Īfter all the mana and rage were gone, the enemy army was almost gone and I had lost 1 rune mage but all my other units were in a dire position. The guy had tons of guardsmen, swordmen, runemages, and knights. Went against some hero, Paladin Mike or something in Montero. I had a hilarious (well, to me) battle last night: And because you weren’t constantly going broke buying replacements early on, you won’t have to worry about some losses in the mid-late game. And you won’t have to do it for long - as you gain abilities new options will open up. If your “real” units don’t get killed (much or at all), and your “tanks” are either summoned fodder or easily healed real units, then the game becomes substantially more manageable. Also spells/rage skills that summon units. So: Paladins (area resurrect), Inquisitors (resurrect), Droids (unlimited heal), Engineers (summoning/limited heal), Mages (50% damage reduction shield), Royal Thorns (unlimited summoning), Royal Griffins and so on. This means that, before you have a lot of skills/spells to work with, you go with units that summon fodder, resurrect or heal, and you use units with damage mitigation. The basics of avoiding frustration and hitting that impassable wall early on is not to burn through troops but to conserve them (that way you never have to constantly go back and restock, which becomes unaffordable anyway). I will have to read through some of these recent tips and try again sometime soon and give it another shot. I really enjoy the gameplay, but not when I have to constantly go back every battle or two to restock troops. I did try a Crossworlds playthru, but after the first few areas hit the really tough difficulty jump and it just wasn’t much fun any more. And it’s nice that you can get Jimmy so early on. The “mage” companion (Elenhel), only offers +4 intellect and can’t use a weapon or wear an armor. See section VIII - Armor Bearers (companions).īy the way, since you got +700 Leadership with Jimmy Crowd, you must have talked to him while having Blood of the Goddess consumable in your inventory (it normally gives you a permanent +150 leadership).įor most Mage builds, Jimmy is the best companion - not just because of the +700 leadership, which a Mage definitely appreciates, but because he can carry a weapon with up to +5 intellect and a dress with +4 intellect or armor with damage reduction. More info than you ever wanted to know about Armored Princess. (relatedly, if I un-equip items to bring my leadership below a unit’s limit, what happens? do they just go berserk in battle or something?)ĭitching a companion means they are gone for good. So, I need somebody who will be better than that. Somehow I healed Jimmy’s scar by talking to him, and now he gives me a nice 700 leadership bump. If I ditch my companion, does he just go back to where I got him originally? I’ve finally found 2 new companions that I can try out, but it looks like I can’t tell what their stats / abilities are until I hire them.
